WAKEFIELD — Robert M. Bumstead, 81, of Wakefield died on Wednesday, April 6, at the Lahey Hospital and Medical Center in Burlington.
Born in Boston on June 8, 1934, he was the son of the late John J. and Helen P. (Bobinsky) Bumstead.
Mr. Bumstead was a graduate of Boston Latin High School, Class of 1951. He had received his first master’s degree in Electronic Engineering in 1955 and his
second master’s degree in
Aeronautics in 1956, both from M.I.T. Mr. Bumstead had served in the United States Army during the Korean War.
He enjoyed crossword puzzles and playing the piano and banjo.
He was the husband of the late Lou Ann (Neth) Bumstead. Mr. Bumstead is survived by his four daughters: Ellen F. Cummings, Emily A. Bumstead Gagnon, Susan B. Chanley and her husband Paul and Margaret L. Jordan and her husband Kenneth, all of Wakefield; his foster daughter Leslie S. Muzzio of Michigan and his five grandchildren: David, Virginia, Thomas, Adam and Rachel. He was predeceased by his two brothers, Msg. John J. Bumstead and George Bumstead.
His funeral service will be held in the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave., Wakefield on Monday at 11 a.m. Visitation for relatives and friends will be held at the funeral home prior to the service starting at 9 a.m. Interment will be at Forest Glade Cemetery in Wakefield.
