NORTH READING — With 2016 soon to be in the rear view mirror, the North Reading Transcript is looking ahead in anticipation of the first baby to be born to a North Reading family in 2017.

While it seems impossible to believe, the newspaper’s First Baby contest is now entering its 11th year and second decade. To celebrate, the Transcript and many other local businesses will shower the first baby born in the new year to a family residing in North Reading with a variety of generous gifts. The full slate of contest sponsors will be announced in next week’s Transcript.

Acceptance of the winning entry is contingent upon the mother’s and father’s consent to have a photograph published of their baby and themselves accompany a story published in the Transcript.

This year’s entry deadline is Friday, January 6 at noon. Entries must include documentation such as the name of the hospital or place where the baby was born, and the time and date of the baby’s birth.

If a baby is not born by the deadline, the contest will be extended and a new deadline will be announced by the Transcript until a winner is determined.

Contact the newspaper by e-mail at: nrtranscript@rcn.com or by phone at 978-664-4761 or 781-245-0080 with the pertinent information.

The winning family must reside in North Reading. The decision of the newspaper is final. Relatives of newspaper employees or contest sponsors are ineligible to participate.
