NORTH READING — The Wakefield Warrior Club held their 16th annual golf tournament on Aug. 9 at Thomson Country Club in North Reading to support the Wakefield High football team.

Over 80 golfers played a round to support the cause.

After a breakfast of donuts, muffins and coffee donated by Derek Robertson of Honey Dew Donuts by the lake, the tournament began with a shotgun start at 8 a.m. and ended with multiple putting and driving contests before raffles and a silent auction at lunch.

The winning foursome with a 57 was Chris Keane, Oliver Miller, Jack Ryan Jr. and Cal Tryder. Keane is the head coach of the Wakefield High golf team and Miller, Ryan and Tryder were 2021 graduates and the top three players on the golf team last fall.

In a close second with a 58 was Paul LaMonica, John Cutting, Craig DiBella and AJ Berthiaume. Berthiaume continued his great day by winning the straightest drive contest and the putting contest.

Third place belonged to Richard Manzi, Robert Sheehan, Tommy Sheehan and Jerry Perrin.

Kevin McCaul won the closest to the pin contest.

The Warrior football team continues their first full week of practice this week. Their first scrimmage is this Saturday, 10 a.m. against Pentucket at Landrigan Field. The season opener is Sept. 10, 6 p.m. at Greater Lawrence Tech.
