WAKEFIELD — The 14th Annual Warrior Club Golf Tournament was held on Monday, August 6 at the Beverly Golf and Tennis Club in Beverly, Massachusetts.

The temperature was well into the 90’s but that didn’t stop 92 golfers from coming out to support the Wakefield Warrior Football team. The Golf Course was in spectacular condition and we are already looking forward to next year’s event. Thanks to all the volunteers who helped put it together. We couldn’t have done it without you.

The day began with our golfers being met as they drove into the golf club by players from the Senior, Junior and Sophomore class of this year’s WMHS varsity football team. The players greeted the golfers with a smile, welcomed them to the event, thanked them for their support and transported their clubs to their golf carts.

From there, golfers checked-in at registration where a team of amazing Volunteers assisted them with Raffle and Mulligan tickets and provided them with their gift bags – stuffed with Tournament giveaways. The gift bags were donated by North Star Realtors and inside, the golfers were provided with: Tournament Golf Shirts with the Warrior Insignia, sponsored by The Savings Bank and 128 Plumbing, Heating and Cooling; Wakefield Football cooler bags sponsored by Keith’s Tree Service and Graphic Solutions. From there, golfers enjoyed a buffet lunch of hot dogs, sausage onions and peppers, and chips.

The Tournament began with a Shotgun Start at 1 p.m.  As the golfers raced to their starting hole, they were greeted by numerous contest and Tee Sponsor Signs to be seen throughout the course.

Tee Sponsors included: Tarpey Insurance, Arbor Tree Service, Fahey Tires, Alano’s, American Concrete Cutters, Sonny Noto’s, Honey Dew Donuts, SPASHCO/NFP, Roberto Brothers Landscaping, Delphi Restaurants (Brothers), Caporale’s Fine Wine and Spirits, NorthShore Pool and Spa, The Coughlin Family, Capone Landscaping, Diagnostic Motor Vehicle Inspections, Early Harvest Diner, 3A Auto Body, Honda Gallery, Independent Concrete Pumping, Jason Farrell, Matt Shevlin, Melrose Bank, North Star Realtors, Salem Five Bank, The T Stop, Townsend Energy, Yeuell Nameplate and Label, Feng’s Asian Cuisine.

Shevlin, Jr. Longest Drive Contest; the 12th hole hosted our Hole-in-One Contest, sponsored by Matt Shevlin, and the 15th Hole served as the location of our 50/50 Raffle. In addition, each golfer also participated in the Justin Leo Marshall Memorial Putting Contest.

Contest Winners:  1st place went to Rich Chambers, Mike Foley, Mike Coombs and Matt Penny with a score of 58!

In addition to bragging rights and the Title of 2018 Warrior Club Golf Champions, each received a $100 gift certificate to Public Kitchen in Wakefield.

Coming in second place, due to a tiebreaker as they were the team with the lowest score on the hardest hole (8), was Tim MacDonald, Jeff Floramo, Tom MacDonald and Ray Malzone.

For their efforts, they received $75.00 gift certificates to Sonny Noto’s Restaurant in Wakefield.

The Highlight of the day centered around our Individual Contest Winners. The 159-yard, Par 3 – 6th Hole served as the venue for our Closest-to-the-Pin Contest and Tim McDonald was the Men’s Winner. On the Ladies side, Nancy Hurley was the winner.

In The Longest Drive Contest, the Men’s Winner was Brooks Townsend and the Women’s Winner was Grace Hurley. The 50/50 Winner was Mr. Difazio. For the first time in the tournament’s history we had a winner of the Putting Contest, Thomas Bankert, the Wakefield High Director of Performing/Visual Art who was kind enough to put his $500.00 winnings back to the football team.

At the conclusion of the tournament, all golfers were off to the banquet, sponsored by Wakefield Co-operative Bank, to check the results of the Raffle drawings, participate in the Silent Auction, and enjoy a beverage and the buffet with their Warrior Club friends and family.

A huge thank you goes out to Wakefield Alumni and our Sponsors who continuously help make the Golf Tournament an exciting and successful fundraising event.
