WAKEFIELD — The West Side Social Club Fourth of July Committee announces that the 2015 theme for its events will be “Gold Star Family — We Honor Your Fallen.”
The theme is used as a guideline for the children to decorate their bicycles, tricycles, scooters, wagons and doll carriages for the Annual Children’s Parade held on the Veterans Memorial Common on the Fourth of July.
“Each year, children decorate their entry that is viewed by a group of judges. First, second and third place selections are awarded a trophy and their entry will be displayed on the Peter Hubbard Children’s Float in the July Fourth parade,” said a spokesperson. “It is an exciting time of the year for families all over to participate in this decade after decade tradition! And the creations just get better and better each year!”
Additional information regarding time frames for each parade will be noted in a future article.
The children’s events will begin with the early morning fishing derby along the shores of Lake Quannapowitt and will finish off with the running races for all ages, including parents, after the children’s parade. “One of our favorites is the Diaper Derby” added the spokesperson. “Last year we witnessed the little ones all sit in a circle and not one moved! It was adorable to see!”
The events will take a break for the afternoon and will continue at 7 p.m. with the Concert on the Common. This year’s entertainment will be Rick Larrimore — The “Ultimate” Tribute to Rod Stewart. Rick, along with his six piece band will perform all the hits from Rod Stewart. “I guarantee, at the end of this performance, you will leave feeling like you spent the evening with the man himself, Rod Stewart,” said the spokesperson.
Information about Rick Larrimore will be published in a future article.
An added surprise entertainment is in the works and as soon as it is finalized information will be published.
As usual, the Fireworks Display will be seen over the Lake starting at approximately 9:30 p.m., weather permitting. The show is expected to be a spectacular one once again.
The WSSC Fourth of July Committee will have an all day Food Tent located on the Lower Common. “We encourage all families to come down early, grab your spot on the Lower Common to view the fireworks, enjoy the concert and treat yourself and your family to something from our Food Tent,” said the spokesperson. “Please remember, our Food Tent is an important means for paying for the entire day’s events. So your visit is truly appreciated!”
As usual, all of this is possible through the generous donations from local families and local businesses. “We fully understand that not all local families or businesses are able to donate but we do ask those that are able to, to kindly do so,” said the spokesperson. Donation envelopes will be included in your electric bill to make it easier to donate. “We truly appreciate all the donations that have come over the past decades and appreciate it just as much today,” concluded the spokesperson. “Without you, none of this would be possible! And our honest desire is to keep this tradition going for decades to come.”
Donations can be made payable to WSSC Fourth of July Committee and mailed to 4 Harrington Ct., Wakefield MA 01880.
