WWII veteran worked in shoe business
CENTER OSSIPEE, N.H. — Dante J. D’Alessandro of Center Ossipee, N.H., and formerly of Wakefield, died Friday, April 19, in Wolfeboro, N.H.
Born in Wakefield on Feb. 19, 1922, he was the son of the late Joseph and Carolina (Vitale) D’Alessandro.
Dante was raised in Wakefield and was a graduate of Wakefield High School.
He had served in the Army Air Corps during World War II and was stationed in Burma.
Upon his return, he began his career in the shoe business with L.B. Evans Shoe Co. in Wakefield. He retired after 25 years with United Shoe in Beverly.
He has been a resident of Center Ossipee, N.H. for the past 25 years.
Mr. D’Alessandro was an avid sportsman; he enjoyed hunting in Vermont and Iowa and fishing throughout New England.
He was the beloved husband of Dorothy (Johnson) D’Alessandro, with whom he had just celebrated 68 years of marriage. He was the loving father of Joseph P. D’Alessandro of Tuftonboro, N.H., Paul D’Alessandro of Center Ossipee, N.H. and Lisa M. D’Alessandro of Raymond, N.H. He was the brother of the late Olivera, Neal and Adamo D’Alessandro and Theresa Barricelli. He is also survived by his three grandchildren: Ashley, Holly and Hannah.
Mr. D’Alessandro’s funeral services will be held at the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave., Wakefield on Friday at noon. Visitation for relatives and friends will be held prior to the service from 10 a.m. to noon.
Interment will be at Forest Glade Cemetery in Wakefield.
