WOBURN — Janet Mercer of Woburn, formerly of Wakefield, passed away peacefully on May 26 at the age of 98.
Born in Newfoundland, Canada, she was the daughter of James and Daisy Walters. Janet was a 30-year resident of Wakefield before moving to Woburn 14 years ago. She loved traveling to spend time with her family, especially her grandchildren; and she was loved by all for her sharp wit and wonderful sense of humor. Janet loved to read and play cards and games, especially with the residents of New Horizons at Choate where she lived. She also loved to take walks, and did so on a daily basis.
Janet was preceded in death by her loving husband of 40 years, Harold Mercer; and her daughter, Marilyn Hamel. She leaves her son James and his wife Donna; and her son-in-law Paul Hamel. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Jamie Mercer, Lauren Mercer and Brad Hamel; and her great grandchildren, Colby and Cormac Hamel, and Jane Mercer, who will all miss her dearly.
Janet will be interred at Forest Glade cemetery in Wakefield at a later date, in a private event as per her wishes. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in memory of Janet to the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 417005, Boston, MA 02241 (www.heart.org).
Arrangements by the Graham Funeral Home, Woburn.
