WAKEFIELD — Josephine Elliott, 91, of Wakefield passed away March 8 after a sudden illness.
Born in Wakefield on Sept. 28, 1924, “Jo,” was the daughter of the late Antonio and Maria (Dioguardi) Caiani.
She was a 1942 graduate of Wakefield High School and went on to earn her bachelor of arts degree from Boston University in 1946, and later a master’s degree in education in 1971 from Northeastern University and Tufts. Jo taught French and Spanish, first in Unionville, Conn. and Wareham, and then for many years at Stoneham High School. She was a member of the Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society, Pi Lambda Sigma Sorority, the Dante Alighieri Society and several teachers’ retirement associations. She was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Wakefield, where she served as a Deaconess and on many committees.
Jo and her late husband Carl Elliott were well known for their many supportive and charitable activities on behalf of those ill or in need.
She was the mother of Ernest Elliott and his wife Cathy of Boston, Sandra Story and her husband Lynn of Hopkinton and Lawrence Elliott and his wife C.J. Lori of Brookline. She was the sister of Helen Caiani of Hopkinton. She is also survived by her grandson Patrick Story and his wife Jenna.
Funeral service in the First Baptist Church, 8 Lafayette St., Wakefield on Saturday at 11 a.m. Visitation for relatives and friends at the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave., Wakefield on Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. Interment will be at Forest Glade Cemetery in Wakefield.
