MELROSE — A 19-year-old Pleasant Street man was charged with burning a motor vehicle next to the Melrose Police station Monday, Nov. 3.

Following up on a couple of calls about a man hiding behind cars in a nearby lot and acting suspiciously around 5 p.m. police found Dancun Kariuki of 105 Pleasant St. near a burning motor vehicle in the TD Bank lot.

Based on witnesses’ statements police arrested him soon afterward.

A 51-year-old Wakefield woman will be summonsed to court following a car accident at Melrose High Nov. 3 around 5:25 p.m.

She was charged with leaving the scene of property damage and giving police a false name.

The Weekly News does not publish the names of those police say they plan to summos to court.

A 23-year-old Salisbury woman will be summonsed to court for an alleged assault on Converse Lane around 5 p.m. Nov. 3.

On Wednesday, Nov 5 around 8:50 a.m. a Grove Street resident told police that earlier he was trying to sell a trailer for $1,000 online and he was contacted by a potential buyer from Ft. Worth, Texas. The buyer sent the local man a check for three times that amount and said he made a mistake and wanted $2,000 back. The local man did not fall for what police call a scam.

A Lynn Fells Parkway resident said on Nov. 5 around 7:45 p.m. that he was a victim of a house break.

Police investigated and found, based on evidence, someone had entered the residence around 1:45 p.m. through the basement possibly while the homeowner was in the house. An iPhone was reported missing as were $80 from the man’s wallet and a GPS golf caddy device.

Police continue their investigation.

On Thursday, Nov. 6, a Beech Avenue resident told police that someone claiming to be an agent of the U.S. Treasury Department said he had minutes to pay an outstanding bill or he would face serious consequences. the resident did not fall for the apparent scam.

Following are some other calls handled by police recently.

MONDAY, NOV. 3

• At 2:16 a.m. police found an abandoned scooter at the corner of Frances and Bartlett streets.

• A caller reported at 5:20 a.m. that he was in a bathroom at Pine Banks Park and could not get up. He was taken to Melrose-Wakefield Hospital.

• Someone called about a Fairmount Street man blowing leaves into the street then pushing them into a storm drain. Police investigated and learned the man was simply putting the leaves in a pile so they could be collected.

• Police investigated a report of underage drinking on Stillman Road around 6:40 p.m.

TUESDAY, NOV. 4

• A Pleasant Street resident reported a bicycle stolen at 10:26 a.m.

• A Lynnfield woman will be summonsed to court for leaving the scene of property damage following an accident at Rockland Trust, 846 Main St., around 2:40 p.m.

• A citizen told police a placard had been stolen from a Swains Pond Avenue home. The report was logged just before 3 p.m.

WEDNESDAY, NOV. 5

• A young child was reportedly left unattended in the front seat of a motor vehicle near Shaw’s supermarket around 2:55 p.m. When police investigated, they discovered the child’s father reclined in the front seat.

• Several dirt bikes were reported driving on Mount Hood Golf Course just before 6 p.m.

THURSDAY, NOV. 6

• Police went to Island Hill Avenue in Oak Grove Village around 9 a.m. after a person called saying he was locked out of his apartment with an infant inside.

• Hypodermic needles were reportedly lying on the ground near the intersection of Park and Clarendon streets around 9:40 a.m. Police found nothing when they investigated.

• Just after 10 a.m., the Animal Control Officer went to Dell Avenue after police were told of a dead cat.
