READING — Lucretia L. (Murphy) Barrett, 87, of Reading passed away on Friday, February 6, at Woodbriar of Wilmington.
Born on July 8, 1927 in Brookline, Lucretia was the loving daughter of the late Benjamin Murphy and Annie (Lally) Murphy. Lucretia was a warm and caring daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt and friend. She will be missed by all who knew her.
Lucretia graduated from Brookline High School with the Class of 1945. She was a communicant of St. Joseph’s Church in Wakefield.
A dedicated homemaker, Lucretia enjoyed baking, knitting and doing needlework.
Lucretia was the beloved wife of Robert Barrett. She was the devoted mother of Mary Gormley and her husband Terrence, Cre Zerfas and her husband Tom, Jane McConnell and her husband David and Nancy Hinds and her husband Michael. The cherished grandmother of 11 and loving great grandmother of 8, Lucretia was the dear sister of Edmond Murphy and his wife Constance, Benjamin Murphy and his wife Mary Ann, the late John Murphy and his surviving wife Agnes and the late Francis “Pete” Murphy and his wife Mary, Walter Murphy and his wife Kathleen and Ann Murphy. She was pre-deceased by her brother-in-law, Reverend Daniel J. Barrett and two sisters-in-law, Sr. Mary Barrett, SND and Anne Barrett. Lucretia is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
The funeral from the Doherty-Barile Family Funeral Home, 11 Linden St. Reading will be on Thursday, February 12, at 10 a.m. followed by a funeral Mass Celebrating Lucretia’s Eternal Life in St. Joseph’s Church, 173 Albion St., Wakefield at 11 a.m.
Family and friends are cordially invited to gather and share remembrances with the family on Wednesday, February 11, from 3:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in the funeral home. Parking attendants and ramped entrance are available. Interment Wood End Cemetery, Reading.
