DRACUT — Lynnfield’s Anthony Martinho has been the club pro at Four Oaks Country Club in Dracut since 2012. The 16-year Lynnfield resident, who also coached the Lynnfield Northeast Baseball League team this summer, was the head pro at Black Swan Country Club in Georgetown from 1998-2009.

Due to the mild winter the course was able to open early on March 13. However, Governor Baker ordered all of the courses to close due to the Covid-19 pandemic on March 24.

“We were excited to open the course early this year,” said Martinho. “Business was doing fine until we had to shut down.”

Only the course maintenance people were allowed to work while the course was closed.

It stayed that way until the governor allowed the courses in the state to reopen on May 7, which was one of the latest re-openings in the country.

One of the mandates is that there had to be 15 minutes in between tee times. Normally, it would only be 10 minutes.

“We ended up losing two tee times per hour,” pointed out Martinho.

The good news is that the course, despite the month and a half off, has been extremely busy this summer.

“June and July were the busiest months since I have been here,” recalled Martinho. “I think that because people are unemployed or working from home have been a couple of reasons why we are busy. Also, the fact that people are not taking vacations this summer has also helped us.”

Four Oaks started its leagues, which are on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursdays, later so they will run into September instead of ended in late August.

“We normally start our leagues later so it didn’t make much of a difference,” explained Martinho.

Martinho had been pleased with the condition of the course despite the heat and lack of rain we have had this summer.

“The fairways and greens are in very good shape,” he pointed out.

Monday through Friday the rates are $44 for 18 holes to walk and $64 with a driving cart. For seniors, on weekdays, it is $50 for 18 holes and a cart.

On weekends it is $54 for 18 holes and $74 if you include a cart.

Twilight rates, which start at 12:30 p.m., are $48 for 18 holes and a cart on weekdays and $58 on weekends.

It is $25 for nine holes on weekdays and $28 on weekends (you can only play nine holes after noon on weekends).

There are four sets of tees for all levels of players. The Black Tees measure 6,268 yards while the Blue Tees are 5,789.

The White Tees are 5,339 yards long while the Red Tees measure 4,348.

The back nine is a little more difficult than the front nine.

The course is also following all of the guidelines the state has mandated for safe play.
