WAKEFIELD — Mary E. “Bunny” Vandewalle, 89, of Wakefield died Wednesday, Aug. 17 in Wakefield.
She was born in Wakefield on Sept. 1, 1926 and was the daughter of the late John and Ellen (Hourihan) Hurton.
A lifelong Wakefield resident, she graduated from Wakefield High School, Class of 1944, and later from the Chandler School of Business. She was a member of St. Joseph Church. Her most treasured role in life was as a wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. What she loved most in life was being with her family. Each of her grandchildren and her great-granddaughter brought another level of joy to her life. She was always proud of her five children and their spouses.
Mrs. Vandewalle was the beloved wife of the late Edward Vandewalle. She was the loving mother of Suzanne Vandewalle and her husband Donald Melino of Reading, Mary Ellen Vandewalle and her husband Robert Hathaway of Braintree, Edward Vandewalle Jr. and his wife Pam of Reading, Lisa Caron and her husband Thomas and Elaine Scalfani and her husband Gary, all of Wakefield. She was the sister of the late John and Thomas Hurton. She was also the devoted grandmother to Matthew Hathaway and his wife Esther, Elizabeth Caron Porter and her husband Christopher, Renee Scalfani, Edward Caron, Kayla Scalfani, Thomas Caron and Ryan Vandewalle. She was the devoted great-grandmother to Isabel Porter.
Her funeral will be held from the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave., Wakefield on Monday at 9 a.m. followed by a funeral Mass in St. Joseph Church, 173 Albion St., Wakefield at 10. Interment will be at Forest Glade Cemetery in Wakefield.
Visitation for relatives and friends will be held at the funeral home on Sunday from 2-5 p.m.
