Deadline to express interest in organizing community events (MLK Day, PRIDE, Iftar, etc.) approaches: Melrose residents and organizations interested in planning/hosting a new community event or program (or one previously hosted by the Melrose Human Rights Commission such as MLK Day, Iftar, and PRIDE), should submit your interest to the commission by Friday, March 22, by emailing melrosehrc@cityofmelrose.org.

City awarded $66,000 grant for MPD’s crisis intervention & mental health training: The City has been awarded a $66,000 grant to fund the cost of crisis intervention and mental health first aid training for the Melrose Police Department from the Department of Mental Health.

We are grateful for his five years of dedicated service and his instrumental role in the transformation of our Milano Center into a modern-day facility to meet the diverse needs of Melrose’s older adults. • Rita Mercado is retiring from the Zoning Board of Appeals after 15 years of service including over 10 years as Chair. Rita led us through countless important reviews and decisions on requests for variances from the zoning regulations, special permits, and administrative appeals. We will miss her thorough, thoughtful, and organized approach to guiding the board.
