MELROSE — Got Styrofoam? Plastic bags? These items don’t belong in your curbside recycling bin, or in DPW’s recycling containers, but they can be recycled at DPW’s upcoming recycling event on Saturday, May 19 from 8 a.m. to 12 noon.

Melrose residents can bring expanded polystyrene/EPS #6 foam (Styrofoam) to Melrose DPW’s recycling center (72 Tremont Street) for free recycling. Foam must be white, rigid and clean. Please – no food residue, no colors, and it cannot have been in contact with food (no meat trays, cups, egg cartons). In addition, no packing peanuts will be accepted. Foam will be inspected upon arrival.

Plastic bags (#2 or #4) can be dropped off if they are clean and dry. Please no tarps or thick plastic sheets.

Other items collected at all Saturday recycling events at the City Yard include: electronics with screens (TVs, monitors and lap tops: $20 each), other home office or entertainment electronics, CFL bulbs, books, clothes, tires ($2-$8), mercury items, dried latex paint, and metal items ($25) including microwaves, air conditioners, etc.
