A loving family man whose passion was volunteering

MELROSE — Richard Auger, 66, passed away on the morning of October 21, 2021. Richard, who was born in Revere, spent his last few years living in Melrose, where many years of his childhood were spent. He had also spent some time living in Everett, as well as on a farm in Littleton. His battle with cancer in recent years showed his admirable courage, and his loud and boisterous personality never left him even throughout his tough battle.

Rich was a loving father, grandfather, and great grandfather to his family who he loved so much. He was a successful business co-owner for over 30 years, and a dedicated member of the Local Pipefitters Union 537.

Rich’s passion was always volunteering, which started decades ago when he was an Everett Recreation League Basketball coach, Cub Scout volunteer and Cal Ripkin Baseball League head coach (leading them to win the league championship in 2000). Many of Rich’s years, including this past year, were spent serving as Vice President and Treasurer at the Schiavo Club in Everett. Rich was the backbone of planning many events that gave back to others such as the annual Toy Drive, Food Drive, Thanksgiving dinner for community members, and Memorial Day March and Celebration.

Richard was the devoted son of the late Edward and Julie (Hogan) Auger and the late Michael and Margaret DelVecchio. Former husband of Cheryl Riley of Melrose and Diane Auger of Acton. Loving father of Christy Bolduc and her husband, Jeffrey, of Melrose; Richard (D.J.) Auger, Jr. and his wife, Shawna, of Littleton and Edward Auger of Sterling. Cherished grandfather of Rachel, Madison, Riley, Emma and Richard (R.J) III. Great grandfather of Tate. Caring brother of Edward Auger of FL, Patricia Kundrat of IL, Michael Auger of Turner Falls, Shawn Auger of NH, Sandra Snelders of Lowell, Michelle Agri of NH and the late Sheila Friend, Robert Auger, Maureen Jenkins, Margaret Kast, James Auger, and Edward DelVecchio. Also survived by nieces, nephews, relatives and many friends.

Visiting hours were held at the Gately Funeral Home, 79 W. Foster St., Melrose on Wednesday, November 3, 2021 from 4-7 p.m. A Mass of Christian burial was held at St. Mary’s Church, Herbert St., Melrose on Thursday, November 4, 2021 at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends respectfully invited to attend. Interment will be private.
