NORTH READING — Susan C. Nickerson (Healey), of North Reading, died at home surrounded by her loving family on September 15, 2022 at the age of 70. She was born on September 25, 1951 in Melrose to the late Robert and Mary (Harris) Healey. Susan was raised in Melrose, where she graduated from Melrose High School, class of 1969.
After graduating High School, Susan had several various jobs before marrying Gary M. Nickerson. The couple traveled to St. Croix and Australia before settling in Woburn, Mass. Susan and Gary enjoyed 44 beautiful years living in their home on Hawk Rd. where they raised their daughter, Sarah N. Bishop, and hosted family and friends for many wonderful holidays and family gatherings over the years.
Susan loved spending time with her grandchildren, walking Horn Pond, vacations with her Michigan and Nova Scotia relatives, boating with Gary, daily phone calls with cherished friends, and attending family parties with her beloved sisters, brothers, nieces and nephews. Susan’s greatest accomplishment was being a mother to her daughter, Sarah, and her greatest joys later in life were her grandchildren, Avery, Grayson and Brennan.
Susan radiated kindness, compassion, empathy and lovingness. She will be greatly missed by all who loved her.
Susan was the wife of Gary Nickerson of North Reading. Loving mother of Sarah N. Bishop and her husband Nathan of Reading. Cherished grandmother of Avery, Grayson, Brennan and the late Caroline. Caring sister of Laura Preston and her late husband Wayne of Lynn, Joan Cavalieri and her husband Ross of Raynham, Robert Healey Jr. and his wife Beth-Ellen of Milford, Steven Healey and his wife Joanne of Burlington and Darren “Tim” Healey and his wife Cheryl of Wilmington. Special cousin of Deborah Bochenek and her husband Ralph of Michigan. Also survived by nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Visitation was held at the Gately Funeral Home, 79 W. Foster St. Melrose, on Tuesday, September 20, 2022, from 4 -7 p.m. Procession from the Gately Funeral Home was on Wednesday, September 21, 2022 at 8:45a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian burial at St. Mary’s Church, Herbert St., Melrose at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends were respectfully invited to attend. Interment followed at Puritan Lawn Cemetery in Peabody. Lunch followed at Meadowbrook Golf Course, Reading, Mass. for family and friends to celebrate Susan’s memory.
