WAKEFIELD — On Aug. 5, Mystic Runners donated $230 to Friends of Lake Quannapowitt during their weekly run around the Lake.
Leeila Given and Karen Faler, FOLQ directors, were present to accept the donation and to salute the group for using the lLake environment in such a healthy way. The mission of FOLQ is to preserve and enhance the environment of Lake Quannapowitt so that it is available for public enjoyment.
Mystic Runners is a group of people who meet every Wednesday night of the year to take a run around Lake Quannapowitt. While Its participating members include runners of all ages and levels of proficiency, they all share the love of stretching their bodies with a good run. Everyone receives a documented time, to use in the challenge of enhancing their own fitness. And at the end of the run, members are rewarded drinks, treats and each other’s company.
Once a month, Mystic Runners make a donation to a local charitable organization. The August donation was directed to the Friends of Lake Quannapowitt.
“This is a marvelous example of two great organizations reinforcing each others’ missions”, said Leeila Givens of FOLQ.
