NORTH READING — North Reading’s fourth grade boys’ travel basketball team (6-2) took on Lynnfield (7-1) to win the Cape Ann Travel Basketball League championship on Sunday, March 14 under the direction and encouragement of coaches Kate Merrill and Jeni Lupien.

North Reading started out strong with a quick six-point lead in the first four minutes. The energy from the bench kept the boys on their toes. Lynnfield quickly fought their way back and managed to close the gap. The first half was back and forth with emotions running high.

With North Reading down by as much as four points in the second half, the boys didn’t give up. With 1:30 minutes left, the Hornets took the lead by one. Tensions were high and teamwork was key. The North Reading boys were able to prevent their opponents from scoring to finish with a 33-32 win to earn the title of champions!

With an unprecedented year and an unpredictable season, the Cape Ann Travel Basketball League was able to give these athletes a chance to play. With the dedication and commitment of the coaches and parents, the boys didn’t skip a beat.
