WAKEFIELD — The ballot for the April 26 Annual Town Election continues to take shape as John W. Barry of 1074 Main St. took out nomination papers today for election to a 3-year seat on the Town Council.

Yesterday, longtime Town Treasurer John J. McCarthy took out nomination papers for reelection as did incumbent Library Trustee Christopher M. Barrett.

James Hogan pulled papers for a full five-year term on the Planning Board on Jan. 11. Hogan was appointed to fill a vacancy on the board last July in a joint meeting of the Planning Board and the Town Council.

All candidates in this April’s municipal election need to return nomination papers to Town Clerk Betsy Sheeran’s office with at least 50 valid signatures of local registered voters by Tuesday afternoon, March 8.

Here’s a look at what is up for election this year.

There are three Town Council positions are open, for 3-year terms each. Incumbent Jonathan Chines took out nomination papers on Jan. 3. John W. Barry pulled papers on Jan. 19.

There are also three 3-year positions open on the School Committee. Incumbent Ami Reuhrwein took out nomination papers on January 3. Incumbent Thomas Markham III pulled papers on January 4.

Other positions the will appear on the April 26 Town Election ballot include the following:

• Town Treasurer – one 3-year term. Incumbent John J. McCarthy pulled papers on Jan. 18.

• Library Trustees – three 3 year terms. Incumbent Christopher M. Barrett took out nomination papers on Jan. 18.

• Planning Board – one 5-year term. James Hogan pulled nomination papers on Jan. 11. He is currently serving on the board after being appointed to fill a vacancy last summer.

• Board of Health – one 3-year term. Incumbent Elaine M. Silva took out nomination papers on January 5.

• Board of Assessors – one 3-year term.

• WMGLD Commissioner – two 3-year terms. Incumbent Thomas Boettcher pulled nomination papers for reelection on January 3. Incumbent Phil Courcy took out nomination papers on January 4.

• Housing Authority – one 5-year term

• Constable – one 3-year term and one 1-year term.

Prior to obtaining blank nomination papers for any office, each candidate must file with the Town Clerk a statement containing his/her name and address, and the office for which he/she intends to be a candidate. The Town Clerk will only furnish nomination papers to a candidate seeking such nominations or to a person presenting the signed authorization of a candidate to secure said forms on his/her behalf.

Completed nomination papers must be accompanied by the written acceptance of the candidate nominated.

Monday, Feb. 28, 2022 at 5 p.m. is the last day for obtaining blank nomination papers to run for office in the April 26, 2022 Annual Town Election.

The deadline for filing nomination papers with the Town Clerk/Board of Registrars is Tuesday, March 8, 2022 at 5 p.m.

Thursday, March 24, 2022 at 5 p.m. is the last day that a citizen my file objections or a candidate may withdraw his/her name from the ballot.

The deadline for registering to vote in the Annual Town Election is Wednesday, April 6, 2022 at 8 p.m. (Information on how to register to vote can be found at wakefield.ma.us/upcoming-elections-2022.)

Campaign finance reports are due on Tuesday, April 19, 2022 5 at p.m.

The Annual Town Election takes place Tuesday, April 26, 2022 7 am – 8 pm. The polling place for all precincts is the Galvin Middle School Gymnasium.

Post-election Campaign Finance Reports are due on Thursday, May 26, 2022 5 p.m.
