U.S. Army veteran during Vietnam era

WILMINGTON — Dennis Stephan, 76, of Wilmington, formerly of Wakefield and North Reading, passed away suddenly on Tuesday, October 22, 2019 at the Winchester Hospital.

Born in Medford on October 20, 1943 he was the son of the late Myles S. and Charlotte E. (Strunk) Stephan.

Mr. Stephan was raised and educated in North Reading before enlisting in the United States Army and serving his country during the Vietnam era. Upon his return home he eventually settled in Wakefield where he went to work for the Department of Public Works from 1970-1973 before being hired as a Police Officer for the town, before his retirement in 2008. Mr. Stephan was a longtime member of the Wakefield Lodge of Elks where he enjoyed playing pool. He also loved fishing, dogs, riding motorcycles, and most especially, time spent with his grandchildren.

He was the loving father of Dawn M. Guziejka and her husband Todd of Dracut, Michelle Stephan of Wakefield, Sheryl A. Stephan of Salem, N.H., Leighann Stephan and her fiancé Ken McKay of Woburn, Dennis B. Stephan of Salem, N.H. and the late Darlene Spector. He was the brother of Ronald, Kenneth, Phillip, Mark and Christopher Stephan, Jacqueline Parsons, Donald Holbert, and the late Geraldine O’Keefe. He was the grandfather of David M. and KayLeigh Stephan, Mia Stephan-Bidmead, and Stephanie M. Vachon. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Visitation for relatives and friends will be held at the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave., Wakefield on Monday, Oct. 28 from 3-7 p.m. Funeral services will be private.
