Warrior Soccer Players Of The Week

CHRISTOPHER J. BARRETT Realtors would like to congratulate Kelsey Czarnota for being named Wakefield Memorial High School Varsity Girls’ Soccer Player of the Week. Kelsey is a junior and a third year varsity player. She was a major factor in the 3-1 win over Watertown and the 2-2 tie against Burlington. Kelsey came into the season late off an injury. Being the natural athlete that she is, she has been able to move back into play with force, determination and the physical fitness that is innate to her. She is able to play a few positions but came on particularly strong last week as Wakefield’s left midfielder. Kelsey never missed a beat on defense, sprinting back on recovery and played as a smart defender, always containing, never lunging and tackling on opportunity. Offensively she keeps Wakefield’s play wide with fast and effective runs down the sideline. Kelsey is always available to her teammates as an option for a pass. She finds space to play the ball and is able to connect with open teammates around her. Creativity in offensive possession is a distinct skill that she embodies. Her presence and participation is heard and felt by all those around her and she is a major reason for her team meeting with success last week.

SAKURA RESTAURANT would like to congratulate Allee Purcell for being named Wakefield Memorial High School Varsity Girls' Soccer Player of the Week. Allee is a sophomore who is in her first year on varsity. Due to a number of injuries to the defensive line of the team, Allee was called on to move from an outside offensive position to a center-defender. While Allee had been serving as the starting left-midfielder, she was chosen to make this move to the back-line for the Wilmington and Melrose games. Her speed, endurance, tackling skills, strong clears, and long balls made her the clear choice. She never demonstrated reluctance to help her team where we needed it most, even though that meant playing a position completely new to her. Being a young player, she continues to accelerate her communication with her teammates around her. In these two most recent games, Allee showed the perseverance necessary to be a defender by never giving up on a play and always racing to win the ball back from her opponent. Her kicks off dead balls are lethal. She was a strong force in the backfield last week, helping her team to better find a groove offensively.
